How to Prevent the Flu in the City of Los Angeles

Health officials are urging residents in the city to limit their outdoor activities to four hours a day, even if it means going outdoors.

Los Angeles County Health and Human Services (LACHS) says people with seasonal flu symptoms can be exposed to people with the virus through close contact with someone with the illness.

The public is asked to limit outdoor activities, including outdoor concerts, sporting events, and social gatherings, to four-hour periods.

People can limit outdoor exposure to two hours a week, which is when the flu is most prevalent.

For people with flu symptoms, limiting outdoor exposure is critical because the virus can spread to those who aren’t vaccinated.

LACSS recommends people limit outdoor time to one hour a day.

People can also limit their time outside to one-half hour a week.

The city of Los Angles has been hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak, with at least 50 confirmed cases and more than 100,000 cases of influenza.

Some of the hardest-hit areas have been in the Central Coast, which includes the cities of L.A. and Riverside, as well as Long Beach and Pomona.

If you or someone you know is having a flu-like illness, contact your doctor right away.

Symptoms of influenza can include fever, cough, runny nose, and cough, sore throat, and muscle aches.

The flu is especially dangerous for people who don’t have an immunity to the virus.

People with influenza should be monitored closely, especially for those who may not be contagious, said Dr. James R. Risberg, M.D., deputy director of the LA County Department of Public Health and Mental Hygiene.
